Nana Pi & Extemporary 9 (Malmö & Kopenhagen)

Nana Pi is a Danish saxophone player, composer and conductor. She has a master degree at the Music Conservatory in Malmö in Sweden and is working in the field of structured improvisation, experimental music and jazz. Nana Pi has developed a music language which she named Extemporize, because it means “to perform, speak, or compose music without planning or preparation”. Nana Pi uses Extemporize to conduct the ad hoc group Extemporary 9 making instant compositions, as well as in her teaching to influence the musicians as one proceeds.

Nana Pi is a bandleader of the groups Nezelhorns In An Elephant String, Nanchen 3,14 and Extemporary 9 and co-leader of SaliBambra, Freaky Freedom, LuthPi. She plays in the group Mollmo and the trédecim group Ensemble Morph led by Herman Müntzing. She has released two albums: ‚Nezelhorns In An Elephant String‘ and ‚Salvation‘.

In dieser Konzertreihe lädt Kurator Stefan Schneider für Freihaus jue schwedische und lokale Musiker der experimentellen Szene ins H20 ein, die hier gemeinsam auftreten, Genres mischen, sich hinter den Kulissen austauschen und so einen Ausgangspunkt für neue musikalische Kooperationen setzen sollen. Schneider selbst ist ein leidenschaftlicher Grenzgänger zwischen Contemporary-, Modern-Jazz- und elektronischer improvisierter Musik – Bredvid ist für ihn also ein ganz logisches Format.
